The production process is different. Red Ginseng is steamed once whereas Black Ginseng is steamed 9 times for 8 hours each, for a total of 72 hours. Secondly, the two main saponin types are different. Red Ginseng contains mainly water-soluble saponins whereas Black Ginseng contains mainly fat-soluble saponins due to the process of steaming 9 times. Compared to water-soluble saponins, fat-soluble saponins have a higher cell membrane transmittance which better activate the immune cells. This results in better absorption by the body.
Yes, children as young as 2 years old can consume ginseng.
Recommended dosage for Black Ginseng:
- aged 2-3 years 10ml daily
- aged 4-7 years 20ml daily
- aged 8-11 years 30ml daily
- aged 12-17 years 40ml daily
- aged 18 years & above 60ml daily
- aged 2-3 years 20ml daily

Enzyme-treated Red Ginseng is formulated by processing red ginseng using Ginseng by Pharm’s specialised enzyme conversion technology. As the red ginseng has been pre-treated with enzymes, Enzyme-treated Red Ginseng contains a wide range of active saponins and has a high absorption rate regardless of the intestinal environment.
Throughout its life cycle, a ginseng root at 6 years old contains the most amount of nutrients and antioxidants. Thereafter, the root will begin to shed its nutrients and lose its potency.

Black Ginseng is highly recommended for lactating women as it helps to boost production of breast milk and reduce swelling. Based on our clinical study, a child who drank breast milk of a mother who took Black Ginseng has a higher immunity.
Red Ginseng is not recommended as it will reduce breast milk production.

It is recommended to take Black Ginseng after surgery as it reduces swelling and speeds up recovery after surgery.
Consuming Korean ginseng is generally beneficial for anyone. It is suitable for children aged 2 and above.
Note: If you are currently pregnant, nursing or on medication, please consult a physician before consuming.
It is not recommended to cook or boil with Red Ginseng or Black Ginseng. However, to enhance the flavour of your soup, you may wish to add Red Ginseng after your soup has cooled down for at least 5 minutes.
